Two weeks before the application deadline for Crispin Porter + Bogusky’s 2010 summer internship, I began sending anonymous postcards to members of the agency. There are eight different postcard designs in total; from Rob Reilly to Alex Bogusky himself, each set of eight was individually delivered to ten important employees, all of which played a key role in hiring future employees. The map point represented on each card detaches to reveal a statistic relating to the distance between myself and the agency. Once all cards are received and placed side-by-side, they create a physical map between Denton, Texas and Boulder, Colorado. The last phase of my self-promotional required an 864-mile road trip to Boulder, Colorado. On the morning the internship application was due, I delivered a 4’x6’ map point to the front steps of the agency, with my resume and website attached, hoping to grab the attention of employees. Sadly, the two art director positions for the internship had already been filled, so I ended up taking a position at the agency for which I currently work, now as a full-time employee. Rumor has it that the map point still sits in a conference room.
